 Welcome to Learn to Meditate, a free 7-day introductory course to meditation. My name is Sarah Blondin, and I'm honored to be one of 2,000 meditation teachers and musicians here on Insight Timer, who have collectively published more than 10,000 free guided meditations and music tracks, creating the largest free meditation library on Earth. I will be your guide over the next 7 days, and we will explore the breath, the mind, the body, and our emotional states. We will learn to set purposeful intentions for ourselves, and end with a deep dive into inner stillness. The meditations in this course will help you learn to calmly focus and concentrate your mind, and bring your full awareness to something specific such as being more compassionate, more kind, or helping in overcoming life's difficulties. We will be meditating for 10 minutes a session, and every day we will focus on a different technique. While there are hundreds, if not thousands of different meditation techniques, meditation is in the simplest and purest sense, a practice of sitting with yourself, so to create more peace, calm, and awareness around you and your life. So try not to feel intimidated, it's really just a beautiful way of coming into relationship with the gift that is you. I'd like you to consider for a moment what may have brought you to want to learn to meditate, whatever it may be that made you feel curious. Meditation will help you in becoming more grounded, aware, and resilient while traversing through the many faces of life. Before we move ahead, here's an important thing I want you to understand as we start the course. Remember that it's okay to be a beginner. No one meditates like the Buddha on their first try, not even the Buddha. He worked very hard at training his mind over many years before he reached a state of inner freedom. I will be guiding you through the whole thing and making it really easy. In the end, it's impossible to fail at meditation. Research has shown that even if you just sit with your eyes closed for a few minutes every day, you get a lot of the benefits of meditation. Even if you have no idea what you're doing and your mind is still busy racing with thoughts, also, this is a personal journey into yourself. No two are the same. So after trying some of the techniques I will share with you here, you can go on to choose whatever resonates most with you as you move forward into the rich and diverse world of meditation. I look forward to guiding you into your interior world and will meet you here on day one to begin with an exploration into the breath.
