Learn Tarot (And Self-Trust) In 13 Minutes

All right, we're going to try a tarot practice here that is going to change your life, I promise. So get yourself a tarot deck, doesn't matter which one, and a journal and a pen and meet me back here in a minute. All right, so I'm going to ask you to shuffle the cards, doesn't matter how, doesn't matter if you've saged them, doesn't matter if you've got certain crystals, there are no rules here, just shuffle and then pull yourself a card. So that card in front of you is going to be your test for this new way of learning and reading tarot. And the point here is not for you to quote understand what that card means, that's old school tarot. Old school tarot told you there was a particular meaning for a particular card and maybe you had to go to a tarot reader to find it out, maybe you could use Google, but either way it stayed the same. And more modern kinds of tarot, of which I'm just one practitioner, is using tarot to help you to understand what that card means for you in this moment, in the particular context you're in, given what you know already and what you need to know and what you're ready to hear essentially. So before we begin I want you to say a little prayer and if the word prayer bothers you then just incantation, whatever you want. And here it is, something along the lines of, please help me to let go of everything I think I know about this card, about myself, about the world, about everything, so that I can have a new experience and see something new. Okay, so help me to let go of everything I think I know so I can have a new experience and see something new. And really a lot of the magic of what is about to unfold comes from the willingness that you just showed in saying that prayer because we are here to access the part of you that already knows and that wants to give you something new that you don't think you know but which you do know when you allow yourself to drop everything you think you know so that you can access inner wisdom, intuition, the subconscious, God, Mickey Mouse, doesn't matter what you call it, there are no rules here, but that, that thing, and you've accessed it before so you know what I'm talking about. Everybody has it, nobody's special if they can access intuition and nobody's not special if they can't, it's just a muscle that we need to practice with and to activate. So the more you do this practice, the more you're going to be building this muscle, which is not the I know tarot perfectly muscle, it's that I can access my own intuition so that no matter what's going on and what I need to do and what decisions I need to make, I can access the wisest part of me to do that. So you can see why this is so much bigger than just learning tarot or getting good at tarot, this is about you never having to be afraid to make a decision ever again. Do you see how big this is? So now I've impressed on you just how important this is, let's take a look at that card that you just pulled. So just put it in front of you. Again, help me to let go of everything I think I know about this card and just let it creep up on you and be willing to be surprised. What are you focusing on in the card? What's jumping out at you? Maybe it's a particular shape or color, maybe it's one particular piece of the card that's really drawing your focus or maybe the whole card. If the card has a character or a person on it, does it bring back a particular memory? Does it remind you of someone? Is that person or figure on the card you or is it someone else? And again be willing to be surprised by what comes through. Just really let that right side, that creative side of your brain talk to you. It might be a major arcana card, it might be a cup or a sword or a coin, whatever doesn't matter. If the words on the card mean something to you, if the words are jumping out at you then they're important and if they're not, ignore them because you know you might think you know that cups mean emotions but maybe you're looking at a cup right now and it's got nothing to do with emotions so trust what you're being given and just let it marinate for a moment. Give it a second look. What are you noticing? What's emerging? And then putting the card down for a moment and picking up your pen and your journal. I'm going to ask you to do something called automatic writing and you may have done this before. It's basically just allowing the universe, your subconscious, whatever you want to call it, something inside of you to give you information that's not currently in your conscious awareness. So in a moment, and you can pause the recording for this, you're just going to pick up your pen and you're going to say that prayer again, help me to see something new, help me to let go of everything I think I know including what I just saw a minute ago because you might be given something completely different in this writing session so be willing to be surprised again. So help me to let go of everything I think I know and then just let the pen start writing and see what happens. Pause the recording now. I'll be back here when you're ready. Okay, so you've done your automatic writing and something's come through and maybe it really underscored, underlined what you saw the first time around. Maybe it gave you a different focus or something completely new. It's all good. Again, there are no rules here. So now we're going to do a little bit of a meditation. Don't worry, it's not going to be long but I'm just going to guide you again. We're doing this sort of spiral, an iterative spiral towards the truth of what this card means for you in this moment, what your growing edge is right now and the first look that you had with the card gave you some information. The automatic writing that you just did gave you some more information and now this meditation is just another turn around the spiral. That's it. We're spiraling inwards towards your truth. Okay, so get comfortable and again ask just to let go of everything you think you know about this card, about yourself, about the universe so that you can have a new experience and you find yourself in a really safe place. It might be indoors, it might be outdoors, who knows? I don't know what it looks like but wherever you find yourself, trust it and just allow yourself to notice that you are safe and as you sit or stand or lie in this place where you are safe, you start to notice a figure coming towards you, also something that increases the sense of safety in you and it might be a person, it might be a character, it might be light, I don't know, something is coming towards you that is your friend and that is directly connected to the part of you that you might call intuition or inner wisdom or spirit or god, whatever word makes sense for you. This character, this thing coming towards you is the current representation of that so you can trust it, you're safe and as it comes towards you, you feel the sense of security and safety increasing and I'm going to be quiet in a moment and I'm just going to let you have a conversation with this deep inner wisdom and I'll see you in a moment. Okay so then maybe that's enough time, if it's not, please pause the recording now and give yourself as much time as you need but if that was enough time, welcome back. This is intuitive tarot, this is not your mother's tarot, this is a way of using the cards to access something within you that has been trying to talk to you for your entire lifetime and the cards aren't special, you know, they're just a tool, they're just a tool to access this piece of you and if tarot is not the tool for you, keep looking but tarot is a really brilliant tool for this because it's a series of archetypal images that are suited, if you've picked the right deck for you and by the right deck I simply mean something that is visually appealing to you and that speaks to you in this moment which might be different from your favorite deck five minutes ago or five years ago so go with the deck that's really talking to you now but if you've got the right deck for you, it is the perfect tool to tap into your subconscious to give you whatever you're now, whatever you need on this portion of the journey and this portion of the journey for you might be, you might be walking through shadow work, you might be doing light worker work, you might be working through trauma or past images, you might be running straight towards God, I don't know where you're at on the journey which is why my job as your tarot doula is to help you to use tarot so that I can put myself out of business because the way we've been using tarot and astrology and every other tool is as if this person outside of you is the guru and they have more information than you do and so you need to keep going back to them and the time for that is over. The age of gurus is done. There is something inside of you that is directly connected to universal wisdom and that knows the perfect route to take you towards your own wisdom so that you can go home and stop messing around in suffering and you know whatever you want to call it, I don't want to use too many words that will complicate this but you know what I mean, that daily experience you have of something not being quite right, of you not quite knowing yourself of you being unable to trust yourself and others and the world and so tarot can be used as a tool to connect you to your inner teacher, your inner guru, your inner voice, whatever you want to call it that can lead you to exactly the breadcrumb you need to pick up today to do your work and it's efficient and it's beautiful and the more you do it, you can use this tool as much as you want but we both know that the more often you use it, the stronger this muscle will become so I invite you to use this tool and to use tarot to bring you to the piece of you that already knows.
