Ground your body and calm your mind after a difficult conversation using simple physical anchors and intentional breathing.

English

A way to steady fast in the minutes right after a conversation that went badly, before you have to walk back in. This short, eyes-open reset is for the shaky, keyed-up feeling after an argument, a hard phone call, or criticism at work: it brings you back into the room and into your body quickly enough to use in a parked car, a hallway, or a bathroom stall, and it ends with the one small thing you’ll do next so that you can get on with the day. A body-based, somatic grounding practice built on looking around and pushing into something solid rather than on the breath, for days when the breath isn’t the anchor you want. Just under three minutes, voice only, one bell at the close, and made to be repeated as often as the day calls for it.
This is education and practice, not treatment. You can stop at any time.

Three-Minute Reset After A Hard Conversation

Hello, this is Malcolm. This is a three-minute practice to try after a hard conversation. You can do it anywhere you can stop for a moment. A parked car, a hallway, a bathroom stall. Keep your eyes open. You can stop at any point, and that counts as the practice. Start by looking around. Find three things that are staying put. door handle, a light switch, a tree on the other side of the windshield. About 10 seconds. Now, find something solid to push against. Your feet into the floor, your hands into the steering wheel, a wall, the edge of the sink, your back into the seat. Pick one. Gently now, about half of what you've got, I'll count. Press 2, 3, 4, 5 and ease off. Once more, press two, three, four, five, and ease off. Last, pick one of three. A long, slow breath out, longer than the breath in. Or a sigh, as loud as the place allows. Or one more push into something solid. Your pick, about 15 seconds. Look around once more. This is where you are. Now name the next thing you're going to do. Make it small and specific. Start the car, wash your hands, walk back to your desk, silently or out loud, about 10 seconds. That's the whole practice. Come back as often as you like. Thank you for practicing with me. The End
